Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning Service
by Tim Giles - Jul 12, 2014 / www.dieselnews.com.au
Western Filters have invested in brand new machinery to offer, what they claim is, the only exhaust DPF leaning Service in NSW. After each DPF clean, the owner of the truck will receive a report on the condition of the filter and ‘before and after’ flow tests.
A diesel particulate filter has thousands of small channels that are alternatively sealed. When working correctly, exhaust flow enters one channel and is forced to exit out of an adjacent channel. The filtering occurs as the flow passes through the wall.
DPFs require a regular service to remove unburned lube oil that has accumulated in the DPF. The material that is removed from the DPF during cleaning is considered hazardous waste and must be properly handled and disposed of in a safe and controlled environment.
Proper Engine Maintenance Necessary to Extend Life of DPFs, Managers Say:
by Roger Gilroy - Special to Transport Topics
Diesel particulate filters, a key element of truck emissions systems since 2007, can present fleets with problems if they are not routinely maintained along with the truck’s engine, experts said.
“If the engine isn’t maintained properly, it will go into regeneration more times than it needs to.
In that case, your [DPF] gets clogged up quicker than it should,”
.... said Michael Buck, the principal at MCB Consulting in Kansas City, Kansas, and a former maintenance executive with Con-way Freight and UPS Inc.
FSX 'Fleet Maintenance' December 2013 issue:
by Drew Taylor - Vice President of Global Marketing /FSX Equipment
The cover story in the August 2009 edition of Fleet Maintenance looked back on the first two years of 2007-EPA emission compliant diesel engines for
commercial trucks.
Wisdom gained on their use and servicing
The EPA had mandated that starting in 2007 all new on-highway diesel engines must limit the emission of particulate matter (PM). To comply with this regulation, OEMS incorporated diesel particulate filters (DPFs) as part of a comprehensive emissions control system. DPFs trap diesel particulates (soot)
in a diesel engine's exhaust through an extensive filtering process. The PM collected is then oxidised to remove it form the DPF.
